Ascendant Resources Inc. has shared an update regarding the optimization metallurgical test program focusing on the primary massive sulphides (PMS) domain at Lagoa Salgada.
The PMS domain represents the highest margin area and is a significant value driver for the Lagoa Salgada Project. Maelgwyn Metallurgical Laboratories conducted bench scale metallurgical testing on composite samples from the PMS ore body, overseen by Minepro Solutions and DRA Global.
Mark Brennan, chairman, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This marks a pivotal advancement for the Lagoa Salgada project. The optimization program’s metallurgical testing on the zinc and lead sulphide dominant mineralization (PMS) has yielded exceptional results in recoveries and grades through a simplified flotation process, producing highly marketable zinc and lead concentrates. These results compare favorably with current zinc and lead producers and position the project at the upper echelon of benchmarks for the Iberian Pyrite Belt.”
Following the completion of the July 2023 43-101 feasibility study, Ascendant initiated the metallurgical performance program to enhance metal recoveries, concentrate grades, and characterization of deleterious elements, aiming to boost revenue potential for the Lagoa Salgada Project.
The initial phase of the optimization program has concentrated on the primary massive sulphide mineralization from the Venda Nova North Sector. This zone is a major revenue contributor for the project and is prioritized for exploitation early in the mine life.
In addition to the metallurgical efforts, the company continues to advance its environmental permitting activities. It anticipates obtaining the permit in Q3/24, positioning Lagoa Salgada as the next mine-ready project on the Iberian Pyrite Belt.
