Canada Nickel reports initial resource estimate for Deloro project, highlighting Timmins District potential

Canada Nickel has announced the initial mineral resource estimate for its Deloro nickel sulphide project, located in Ontario’s Timmins-Cochrane mining camp. This estimate marks the first of seven anticipated new nickel resource reports, which are expected to be completed by the end of Q1 2025, highlighting the extensive potential of the Timmins nickel district.

The Deloro project has reported an initial indicated resource of 81 million tonnes grading 0.25% nickel, equating to 202,000 tonnes of nickel. Additionally, there is an inferred resource of 357 million tonnes grading 0.25% nickel, containing 885,000 tonnes of nickel.

Canada Nickel CEO Mark Selby expressed satisfaction with the scale of the Deloro resource, noting, “We are very pleased with the size of this initial resource on Deloro, particularly considering the relatively small scale of the target footprint compared to the 20+ targets in our portfolio.” He also highlighted Deloro’s strategic location near Timmins and the Dome mill’s mining and processing infrastructure, coupled with a low average overburden of just nine metres.

The initial estimate for Deloro is based on 8,242 meters of core drilling across 22 holes. The resource calculations used a cut-off grade of 0.10% nickel. In detail, the inferred resources total 357 million tonnes at 0.25% nickel, representing 885,000 tonnes of contained nickel, while the indicated resources amount to 81 million tonnes at 0.25% nickel, with 202,000 tonnes of contained nickel.

Looking ahead, Canada Nickel’s 2024 exploration program aims to further assess the potential of its Timmins nickel district holdings. To date, the company has drilled 112 holes, totaling 47,482 meters. The exploration is supported by seven active drill rigs: four are working on the Mann Central and Mann Northwest properties, two are advancing the next phase at the Reid project, and one is targeting the eastern section of the Reaume project.
